It’s Biblical…….

Yes it is, in the Old Testament, this week there is a reading that says “Do not put a stumbling block in front of a blind man”, how appropriate for a week during which our City Council was considering the 2025/26 budget in which we are featured as an older project needing their approval to get nudged over the finish line.

In conversations with staff we have been assured that we will be included, in the final 2025.26 budget, in fact we have been told that by some staff with some certainty. While we trust staff comments, we are still lacking the proverbial “nod” from some of the councilors who have yet to meet with us. We hope that they will find time to do so, and that with their support, we can look forward with confidence to this project moving to conclusion.

It’s Ethical……………….

In a troubling development today, a Judicial panel appointed to examine the facts surrounding an ethic complaint filed against Councilman Barry Graham, for applying pressure on staff to remove the 68th Street Sidewalk Project from the 2025/26 budget and responding to his request to have the panel remove the complaint, the panel issued a sharp. rebuke against the Councilman. The Judicial panel said “staff testimony contradicts Councilman Barry Grahams statements”. They advanced this investigation to a June 5th hearing.

We have been fortunate to see some of the supporting documentation concerning the peculiar movement of the 68th Street Sidewalk project from the budget and then back into it. And, we are grateful for its return. It is clear we need to stay vigilant until this whole project is completed. You can reach Councilman Barry Graham at Bgraham@scottsdaleaz.gov and let him know your thoughts on the matter

We hope that he will support a project worthy of his support because of its consequences for all in our community. We hope that he remembers, “do not put a stumbling block in the path of a blind man, : and DO THE RIGHT THING !!!.

Dear Scottsdale City Council – My name is Tristahn Schaub, a resident of Arcadia who has been working with the City of Phoenix for the past 7 years on the 56th St Upgrade details here: 56th Street from Thomas Road to Camelback Road Project | City of Phoenix.

The impetus for the project was to provide a safe passage to the canal, schools, parks, bus stops and businesses in the community.  68t, like 56th is a high-volume collector that offers no safe passage to non-vehicular travelers.  To support Arizona’s “complete streets” initiatives I ask that you fund and complete the 68th St sidewalk project you’ve already reviewed.  Arcadia is a walkable community and a point of pride for those visiting downtown Scottsdale with beautiful views of Camelback Mountain and the lush Arcadia landscapes.  If you vote to complete this, we will have “the loop” completed for community runs, fundraising races and resident enjoyment.  The loop involves starting at AZ falls east along the canal north on your new sidewalk west down Lafayette, south on our the newly rebuilt 56th St (construction starts end of year) and connects back to the canal at AZ falls.

Please fund this project and please come enjoy your neighbors and citizens with your newly created passageway in paradise.

    Tristahn
