Last night the City Council approved the 2025/26 budget. In doing so, the 68th Street project was included and can now go to the next step on its way to getting completed. We will take the win, but were surprised by the coarse politics and maneuvering that cost the Mayor part of her staff in the process.
Then it came time for the council to pass a resolution to accept the findings from the Judicial Panel reviewing the ethics complaint against Councilman Graham, and their verdict. While the Judicial panel concluded that Graham was “GUILTY !!!”, the three councilors led by Kwasman, Dubauskas and Little-field, took it upon themselves to block acceptance by the council of the report from the panel that had concluded that Graham violated the Scottsdale City ethics ordinance, It is as if they believed that not accepting the verdict they could nullify the conclusion, they cannot. The fact remains, Councilman Graham vviolated our City code of conduct. It raises many questions about Graham and his defenders, their behavior has not gone unnoticed, nor has the judicial panel’s GUILTY verdict !
Reflecting on last nights circus, we feel a deep sense of disappointment at this spot our council has reached. We can and must do better but it is hard to see how that happens in the current Big Top. Thank goodness we have elections and one is just around the corner. We are not about politics, we are about “Doing the right thing!”, we will not wring our hands helplessly, but we will remain vigilant until our project is completed.
”BUILD A SIDEWALK, SAVE A LIFE!”
Below for your edification is the recording of the meeting. After amendments, discussion, and disappointment the vote on the budget happened at 2:19:00.
