And The Sun Rises, Again

Were this an old fashioned newspaper, in a different age, the newsboy’s would be yelling loudly, “Read all about it, Read all about it!” and they would have good reason, we are happy to report that we have a full house, all the City Counselors have agreed to vote for and support the 68th Street Sidewalk and Roadway development. We must give them all credit and call them out by name:

Solange Whitehead

MaryAnn McAllen

Mayor Lisa Borowsky

Jan Dubauskas

Adam Kwasman

Kathy Littlefield

Barry Graham

We must celebrate this moment and express our gratitude. All the time we must not forget the troubling fact, why did we have to battle this battle again? Why was it so challenging to get all of these leaders to DO THE RIGHT THING? We realize that we have to stay vigilant until the last load of concrete is poured and the last truck of black top set in place. What has come out of this process is a profound distrust of some of our City Councilors whose focus is questionable. We cannot let down our guard, and we will not.

While this all may seem rather anti-climatic, we all need to understand that we must engage with the process of our governance, we cannot just place a vote and walk away, we need to have a better understanding of who we are actually voting for, what do they truly believe and whether or not they really have our city’s best interest at heart. Some of what we have seen on display since this current council was seated should cause us to pause and scratch our heads and wonder. Most of all we need to recommit ourselves to being responsible for how to meet our democracy, we own the outcome. So, we will be talking more about this gnarley stuff as we continue our mission to get this sidewalk approved, funded and built in the current fiscal year.

Build A Sidewalk, Save A Life !
