The day ended yesterday with one errant City Councilor still silent. No commitment for an appointment or call to discuss the matter at hand. Several weeks ago, in a brief encounter, when asked for support for this project, in an inelegant attempt at verbal jujitsu, we were told “I never said I don’t support it”, to which we replied, but somehow you will not say you will support the project, to which we got a shrug. Still in an effort to avoid any embarrassment, we will not reveal the individual until to morrow to leave space for the individual to come forward. This is collegial, not combat.
We got some feedback yesterday that needs some clarity. There is no taking of any property that is required to complete this project. Homeowners along 68th Street have encroached on the public right of way. As a result they come to the edge of the road. When this project development gets done, the homeowners property lines and their irrigation berms will be rebuilt at their property line. There will no longer be any encroachment onto the public right of way and those homeowners will be able to safely use the sidewalk to enjoy their homes and neighborhood..
In a separate matter, yesterday, there were depositions taken in the ongoing ethics violation investigation and hearings.. We are hopeful that this will conclude swiftly and the City can move forward positively.
The sun will rise shortly, and it will rise again tomorrow and then, we will disclose those councilors that have indicated support and we hope for a full house, so stay tuned. We want to see this project completed, we want it to be collaborative with all of our City Councilors on side. Would it not be fabulous to go for a stroll or bike ride to the canal?
Build a sidewalk, save a life!
