What does it mean when the citizens see a problem, NO SIDEWALKS IN A DANGEROUS AREA, get together, sign a petition, go to city meetings and lobby the city to solve the problem and the city agrees to do so, then starts the process and planning to make that solution come to fruition. The City Council passes a resolution to advance the project, staff start work and engages consultants to make it happen. Then, when final budget and authorization is required, that council suddenly decides for no clear reason to remove the project from consideration, what does all of that mean?
We The People, the folks who voted for these leaders, did so because we trusted and believed that when they take their oath of office, they will faithfully carry out and complete the work started by the prior council. Just as the next council will carry out the work of this council. We have a reasonable expectation that they will protect us by eliminating the obvious danger represented on that little stretch of 68th Street. They will do what is necessary for all the citizens and visitors to the area, they will do the job they have chosen and been elected to do for us.
We believe that it may now be under consideration again, but , can we trust the leadership to do what they said they would? Trust gets lost when commitments are not honored, Madame Mayor, City Councilors, we are asking you to complete this project because it is THE RIGHT THING TO DO, protect us from the dangers on 68th Street, protect us, We the people.
