As the Scottsdale City Council works to put in place the 2025/26 operating and capital budgets, we need to remind them that the sidewalk project along 68th street between Camelback and Indian School Roads is a critical piece of infrastructure. To underscore its importance to many in the community who are challenged, we have filed an ADA complaint with the relevant authorities, the promise made to correct this problem and make the area safe and accessible to all must be kept. The call for our councils action should not have to be an accident or fatality along this stretch of road. We call on our City Councillors to visit the area, maybe even walk the area, take your kids with you , your parents too, then decide on your support of this urgently needed piece of infrastructure , it will benefit generations.
The process of developing this road and sidewalk project will not involve the taking of any property. This project is supported by the community including the homes along the right of way that are directly impacted.. Most importantly, this project was initiated by a citizen petition imploring our leadership to solve a dangerous situation for the benefit of all, vehicles, cysclists, pedestrians and folks with disabilities trying to get to use our city’s amenities. DO THE RIGHT THING !!!
PROMISES MADE MUST BE PROMISES KEPT
In taking their oath of office, our city leaders are committing to institutional fidelity to the Council that preceded them, just as the Council that follows this council will honor the work this council does. They will trust that you acted in good faith and within the mandate that elected you. It is called institutional integrity, creating a path filled with the ruins of discarded pre-approved plans, projects and resolutions is to disrespect the voters who supported and drove that council and those plans. Success will never be measured by how distructive this councel can be but how successful it will be in creating and driving forward new projects that will inspire our citizens and command the loyalty and respect our beautiful community rightly deserves.
